International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day") is observed around the world on 21 September. Established in 1981 by United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.

SIMPLE THINGS CAN BUILD PEACE ON 21 SEPTEMBER – PEACE DAY

Our lives are made up of day to day experiences and interactions, so every day we have the chance to make someone else’s life better. To build a more peaceful and sustainable world, we need to build peace in our everyday lives.
No matter how small, everyday acts of kindness can help make peace a reality; whether it is standing up for somebody in trouble, saying sorry, reconnecting with an old friend, or helping someone you see who’s in need of assistance. Of course, random acts of kindness should take place all year round, but we would like to invite you to join with others around the world to give this wonderful idea special focus on Peace Day 21 September.
Wherever you are, at home, school, or work, you can help improve the quality of the lives of the people around you, including your family, colleagues, teachers, classmates or friends. Sometimes the simplest things can have the most immediate and meaningful impact on the lives of everyone around you.

So on Peace Day 21 September…
What can you say to make peace with someone?
What can you do to make peace with someone?
Who will you make peace with?

What do you think people should do in order to live happily in peace?

Imagine (John Lennon)

  1. For me, the Day of Peace is absurd holiday, because only one day in a year is a Day of Peace. For me this is illogical. I understand that this is just a way to draw the attention of society to the problem of conflicts and wars. But these problems are discussed only on this day. Then, as usual, we forget about this problem until next year.
What can you say to make peace with someone?
In such situations we usually say some basic phrases like «Sorry!», «I beg your pardon!» and others.
What can you do to make peace with someone?
The best thing I can do is not to quarrel or offend other people and pretend I had forgotten about some harm made by someone to me.
Who will you make peace with?
As I have already said, I try not to quarrel with people I want to make peace with.
What do you think people should do in order to live happily in peace?
They must be kinder, more responsive, softer, but in today’s realities it's impossible, because nowadays world becomes more and more cruel.

    1. In some ways I agree with you but I don't think that it's so absurd holiday. In some ways - yes but it also reminds us to be more careful in communication with people.

    2. I wrote that position. But I repeat, that it reminds us once a year, when it must be regularly practiced.

    3. You are absolutely right, Yura, that Peace Day draws people's attention to the problem. What I can't agree withis that people fight for peace only on this day. Such organisations as UN, UNESCO and others do it every day. I don't know whether the world is getting more cruel than before. Perhaps mass media prefers showing actions of agression on the news to more peaceful things.

  2. You should say some compliments or just thanks to other people. You can say sorry or something good to cheer up people. You can share your smile with others.
If you want to have peace with someone you can say "Sorry" . It's never late to say sorry.
I'll make peace with someone who is really important for me. It can be my best friend or my relatives but I try not to quarrel.
To live happily people need to stop worrying about nothing. They can laugh with their friends and don't quarrel to people.

    1. These are common and basic rules of politeness and social behavior. I agree with you completely.

    2. You are right, Ksyusha. “Share your smile with the world. It’s a symbol of friendship and peace,” someone said.
